The best thing yet to grow in our prairies – Cale!

I’ve decided to blog about Amy’s Me and My Shadow blog, so don’t read this until you’ve read hers.

Now, I want our readers to know that Amy wrote about her son, Cale, at my request, and furthermore I’m adding my assurance that it’s all true.  Except that I don’t think he’s interested in her job.  Probably Mike’s or Bill’s.  But that thing about remembering there was a document to be delivered to our board president Saturday – and making sure that it was done  - whoa, that just blows my mind.  This is a little person with a Y chromosome after all, not usually, in my estimation and experience, associated with tending to such details.

Let’s go for a volkswalk!

A what?  No, it’s not something you do when your old VW breaks down.

A volkswalk is an organized, social, noncompetitive 10K (6.2 miles) or 5K walk for all ages.  We’re hosting one at Griffith Prairie on Saturday, April 28.

Volkswalking originated in Germany (surprise!) and evolved from a Sunday social tradition.  After church, families from neighboring villages would walk to the midpoint between the villages for a picnic, games and socializing.  The villages were approximately 10 kilometers apart, which is what set the length of most volkswalks.

Reflections on SOAR

The most gratifying experiences for me in all these almost 27 years of Prairie Plains life have been during SOAR.  It is when we can all just go outside and immerse ourselves in that which we spend much of the rest of the year promoting, managing, planting, burning, planning for, and documenting.
