Graphic coolness, or warmness, rather

Prairies Made by Hand Graphic

It’s fun to get new stuff. Especially in January and February when there’s been snow on the prairie for three months and you can’t get outside except to scoop your driveway or fall on the ice on your way to your car. If we haven’t been introduced, I’m a summer. Well, actually I’m an autumn, but my mental health demands hot, humid, sunny summer. I miss you, sun.

Anyway, our friends at Idea Bank Marketing created this awesome new graphic to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Prairie Plains. Thirty years! That’s a big deal. And our new graphic says so. It says, “Hey, this Prairie Plains thing is a BIG deal. Notice us. Love us. We’re fabulous.”

And because it’s’ awesome and it makes such a statement, we’re putting it on everything. It’s the new masthead on our homepage, it’s on all of our print advertising and we even put it on some t-shirts. You can buy one if you want. A t-shirt, that is. You can buy a beautiful t-shirt. Just email me.

Bill came up with the idea last fall while we were standing in a prairie harvesting seed. He said, “Prairies made by hand. I like that. We ought to use that as our slogan.” And Mike and I got excited, as we often do when Bill says stuff, and we started imagining the rich colors of antique fruit crate art and the deep meaning the imagery would project to the world. “It will speak to our dedication to quality,” Mike said. “It will convey nostalgia for patience and commitment to doing things the right way,” Bill added. “It will look really cool on t-shirts!” I thoughtfully interjected.

For the organization, this visual eye candy commemorates 30 years of planting prairies, working with people on the land and spending time with kids outside. For me it inspires hope for what’s to come in the next 30 years. Like finishing the Education Center, starting our new intern program, sharing ideas and knowledge with people around the globe.

It also projects a sense of warmth. Deep, rich colors. Rays of light. Hands without mittens. You know, like summer. The next 30 years will also have summer.

I love thinking about the future.
