Prairie Plains Resource Institute
Prairie Plains Resource Institute has been celebrating the land and its people since 1980! A nonprofit educational land trust, we’re dedicated to creating opportunities on the land for people of all ages. We offer a full calendar of events on our seven Nebraska prairie preserves, consultation for landowners and agencies regarding high-diversity prairie restoration, an award-winning nature day camp for elementary students and much, much more.
Prairie Plains on NPR
Harvest Public Media recently produced a radio and video segment about our prairie restoration program that aired on Nebraska's NPR stations. The radio story is available at the top of the page and the video is further down. We appreciate the opportunity to share information about what we do with the NPR audience. Listen, watch and enjoy!
Chance of a Lifetime
WE DID IT! We've exercised our option to purchase the 650 acre Sherman Ranch along the Platte River in Hamilton County and surpassed our fundraising goal of $1,882,390! We'll close on the property in late February and then begin our work to make it accessible to people. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who supported this amazing project to make Tom Sherman's wishes for his land come true. Read Bill Whitney's article in Prairie Fire Newspaper about Tom Sherman and his land here and watch an interview with Tom Sherman to hear more about what this property meant to him.
A Great Celebration!
Our Celebration of the Prairie held on January 23rd was a HUGE success! Thanks to the talents of our loyal members and friends who donated an abundance of fabulous items for the silent and live auctions, and to the attendees who generously placed bids, we raised $16,400! The proceeds will help us complete the Charles L. Whitney Education Center, providing a place for people of all ages to gather, learn and share ideas.
